Plain-English terms for ordering 3D printing, CAD design and 3D scanning from fab, a service of Simon Ruelland in Nanaimo, BC. Placing an order means you agree to these. No fine-print tricks; if anything's unclear, just ask.
fab makes FDM 3D-printed parts, CAD models, and 3D scans. They're great for prototypes, housings, brackets, fixtures, replacement and repair parts, hobby projects, and general-purpose use. They are not certified parts, and 3D-printed plastic is not the right material for safety-critical jobs.
You agree not to use a part I make in any application where its failure could cause injury, death, or serious property damage. That specifically includes:
You know your application; I don't. Deciding whether a part is right and safe for your use is your responsibility. If you send me a file or design, you're responsible for it being sound, correctly dimensioned, and fit for purpose; I print it to your spec. If I design or scan something for you, I'll do careful work to your brief, but you still need to test and confirm it works before you rely on it. Treat a new part as a prototype until you've proven it in real use.
Prices from the online tool are estimates; I confirm the final price after I review the job. Orders under $100 are paid in full before I start; orders over $100 and CAD design jobs are split 50% to begin and 50% on completion. $20 minimum order. Shipping is a flat $20 across Canada, free over $150, or free local pickup in Nanaimo. Payment by Interac e-Transfer or cash. Shipping goes to the address you give me, so please check it. If a parcel can't be delivered or comes back because the address was wrong or incomplete, I'll resend it once you confirm the correct one, but the reshipping cost is on you.
If a part arrives broken, or one I designed doesn't fit the way we agreed, I'll reprint it or refund you. Because everything's made to order, I can't refund a change of mind, a file you sent that turned out wrong, or a delivery that failed because of an address you gave me.
To the fullest extent the law allows, my total liability for any order is limited to the amount you paid for that order. I'm not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, or for how a part is used once it leaves my hands.
If someone brings a claim against me because of how you used a part I made for you, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of that claim, except where it was genuinely my fault, such as printing a part defectively against the spec we agreed.
You confirm you have the right to make what you've asked for, and that it doesn't infringe anyone's patent, copyright, or trademark. You keep the rights to your own part; when I design it for you, you get the native CAD source to keep and revise.
Files you upload are used only to quote and fulfill your job. They aren't shared or sold. The instant-quote slicer measures your file and wipes it; I keep only what's needed to do the work and maintain normal business records.
I'll give you a realistic date when I confirm the job. Timelines are good-faith estimates, not guarantees.
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada.
